Deer Hunter 5 ...buggy, but good!
By J. Hall
I picked up my copy of DH5 at the store the other week and have been playing it everyday since. Well, everyday since I updated my video card, that is. Apparently, the game has several glitches in it, one of which is that it isn't working with certain types of video cards, such as Voodoo 3 and earlier, and some Intel cards. The game also contains numerous other glitches, but nothing that really takes away from the game.
As for the game, it is basically an updated version of DH4, with new maps and animals (bear, elk, mountain lion) and nicer graphics. It also has a season mode where you can manage deer, watching them grow season to season. Also included in the game are the rarities from DH4, like Albino, Unicorn, and Demon deer! Gone from the game are the World Record bucks, which have been replaced with the easier to find SSTS (Sunstorm Trophy Scoring) Trophies.
All in all, it's a great game and I do recommend it, despite it's glitches. However, Sunstorm is suppose to be releasing a patch anytime now to help solve the glitch problems and once they do, I expect this game to be one of the best Deer Hunting sims on the market, if not THE best!

Realistic hunting, if you don't mind glitches.
By Monks
Deer Hunter 5 is a massive improvement over Deer Hunter 4 in visuals and the form and function of the deer. It is the most realistic hunting program yet. However the glitches, even after the patches, continue to remind you that it is just a program. First off the describe scene button on the game, which you need to use if you want to have some idea of the size of deer you are aiming at, gives wrong or useless advice. The hunt at dawn setting for fall and winter is black as night making it impossible to hunt. You have dangerous creatures setting were you can be killed by a wondering bear. I have been killed twice and both times the bear was invisible. In primitive weapons mode the muzzle-loaded weapon miss fires enough to become very annoying, and the compound bow's pin settings put the "p" in primitive.
If you are already a lover of (or addicted to) hunting games, then these are minor annoyances, but if you are new to the Deer Hunter series, then I would suggest that you look for a program with a better performance record.

Nice Hunting expierence
By A Customer
This Game brings hunting on the computer to a new level. I am amazed by the amount of different looking deer and all the new graphics. I have DH3 and I thought that was great! Now Wizard Works hit the mark again with DH5. I will buy new versions as they come out. If you are a hunter, or just like to shoot mass quanities of deer, then this game is for you. Thanks Wizard Works! Kepp it coming.
