Creating up to 1-1/2 quarts of ice cream, frozen yogurt, sorbet, or frozen drinks at home takes only about 20 minutes with this electric appliance, and salt and ice are not needed. After the machine's chilling chamber has been in the freezer for about eight hours the liquid between its walls becomes thoroughly frozen. The chamber then goes atop the power base, the unit's paddle goes into the chamber, the transparent top is locked in place, and the machine is turned on. Ingredients go into the chamber through an opening in the top as the paddle turns. The chamber chills the ingredients to whatever consistency is desired--though dense treats are hard to make because the paddle churns in air.
Chocolate chips, chopped fruit, nuts, and other special ingredients can be added toward the end. The nonstick chamber makes cleanup a snap. Storing it in the freezer ensures a frozen confection is only 20 to 40 minutes away when the mood strikes. The machine measures 10 inches in diameter and 15 inches high and weighs 9-1/2 pounds. It carries a three-year limited warranty. A detailed instruction booklet including many recipes comes included. --Fred Brack

Read This if yours only makes ice cream "soup"
The first several times I used this product, it didn't seem to work--the ice cream never really froze, it just turned into a very cold soupy sludge. I had checked all the obvious things--made sure the bowl was completely frozen, made sure my ingredients were well-chilled, didn't overload it and let it run the recommended amount of time. I was going to return it, but thanks to all the positive reviews here, I thought maybe there was something I was doing wrong.
For flavoring, I was always using a certain artificial vanilla flavor that I like. And because I like it, I use a lot of it. One of the main ingredients of this flavoring is propylene glycol. If any of you who read this are chemistry buffs, I'll bet you're laughing now. Propylene glycol is often used in food flavorings and colorings, but also is used as antifreeze when a non-toxic antifreeze is required. So I was pouring in a good deal of edible antifreeze with my ingredients--next time I'll just use chocolate or something!
So, if you're having trouble getting your ice cream to freeze and you've checked everything else, make sure your flavorings don't contain propylene glycol!!

I've only had this Cuisinart ICE-20 for a few months and initially it worked wonderfully, but last week it stopped working. When I put the freezer bowl on the machine and then the lid and turn it on everything seems to be okay; the bowl turns as it's supposed to. However, as soon as I pour the ice cream mix into the bowl it stops turning altogether! I did not change anything in the way I made the ice cream. I froze the bowl ahead of time, I cooled the ice cream mixture before putting it into the machine, but it the bowl just won't turn anymore. I emailed the Cuisinart people but as of yet have not received a response from them. I have ordered a new machine and am anxiously waiting for it to arrive.

Missing paperwork on usage, warranty and recipe booklet. Received. Now to use! in order to rate a higher star. Super!
I would like to say I love this but when it's not in the manufactures box put into shipping box but just machine bubble wrapped and plastic wrapped and NO paperwork such as warranty, instruction and recipe booklet. How can a person use it properly without guessing. I hope I will receive that paperwork in the mail soon or I will be sending back. Thanks Alicia Mitch's wife!!!!!
January 4, 2017 Issue resolved and I have paperwork that I printed off from here. Now I just need to use it!!! Also, I was able to register at Cuisinart for warranty. Further follow-up after using.
January 8, 2017 I like the ice cream maker so far. I did a copy-cat Wendy's Frosty and it was delish!!!
