A waffle baker, grill, and griddle, this three-in-one appliance comes in handy during breakfast, lunch, dinner, and after school. Key to the unit's versatility are two 8-inch-square cooking plates--one set into the product's bottom and the other into the hinged top. On one side the plates form grids for making four waffles at once. Flipped over to show their flat sides they're capable of top and bottom grilling a sandwich or steak. To create griddle space, the top opens up flat, forming two 8-inch-square cooking surfaces for all foods that love a griddle--such as pancakes, hash browns, and eggs. Channels send grease to spouts in the griddles' corners, where it drains away. Nonstick to release food easily and wipe clean, the cooking plates also can be removed for scrubbing. A heat control offers high, low, and medium temperatures. With its chrome housing and stay-cool black synthetic handles, this 900-watt appliance looks great on the counter. Afterward, the cord wraps around the hinge, plus you can stand the unit upright for compact storage. It measures 11-1/4 inches wide, 5 inches high, and 11-3/4 inches deep and carries a one-year warranty against defects. The plates will be slightly loose when the lid is open but this is normal with waffle/grill makers that are inter changeable. The plates are secured by little metal clips. The clips secure the plates to the griddle. You can take them out and flip them to make waffles.--Fred Brack

Cooks OLD style regular waffels to perfection!
By Vernon L. Jenewein
Cooks well and cleanly. However, be mindful that you need to allow just a little bit of time between taking out the fresh cooked waffle and putting in new batter to cook. If you start the process too quickly, you can get an undone center and the outsides will be done as intended. Also I found that when it cools down I can wrap the cord around the bottom half and put the cord in that small groove and lock it in with the plug in on the other side. I use a large pan under it to catch any overage-spill from baking. I have put too much batter in and had it ooze out the sides and drip onto that pan. It breaks right off from the waffle iron when done, and I can easily clean up the drip on the pan underneath. Use aluminum foil and merely dispose of the foil when done. I used NO spray, but relied on the oil I have in my waffle recipe (home style recipe). I wish there were a cross-element of coiled heating wire to get the centers of the grill more even, rather than the solid heating element. However, this type of element will be a lot harder to damage or burn out later on.

Best purchase ever
Best purchase ever? Perhaps! Plates are easy to remove and clean up easily. One spay of Pam while it is warming up is enough spray for cooking all of the batter. We haven't needed to find a place for it in a cabinet because we use it so frequently. Makes light crispy (almost Eggo thickness) waffles. The heat light can be kind of confusing, it comes on and off and doesn't really mean "perfectly cooked now" so you have to watch the clock or use a timer if you have a lot going on in the kitchen. We've made: regular waffles, a waffles and fried chicken dinner, a spice cake/pumpkin batter waffle dessert, quesadillas, waffles and peanut butter (Justin's honey peanut butter... Just don't even - it's ahhhhmazing) and I have a recipe I'm excited to try for savory sweet potato and cornmeal waffles. This has definitely been a fun appliance! It doesn't take up too much space, either. Hope it will last is as long as some of the other reviews claim it will.

Uneven cooking surface
I really really wanted to like this because I don't know when the Belgians took over the Waffle Makers of the world, but I just want a regular thin waffle. Not a belgian waffle.
I hoped this would work not just for the waffleness, but the ability to use it as a flattop cooking surface.
Sadly, like other reviewers have pointed out, the cooking is wildly uneven and parts of the waffle will be almost too brown while others are barely cooked. Different temperatures made no difference, the cooking was too uneven. Even using as a flat top cooking surface, I used some bread to "toast" to gauge the evenness of cooking and the same thing -- parts barely toasted the bread while others were nearly burnt.
