Product Description

Elmo loves his fuzzy, well-worn blanket better than anything else in the whole world. In fact, they are inseperable. Elmo would never let anything happen to it-until a tug-of-war with his friend Zoe sends his blanket to a far away land.

Welcome to Grouchland, U.S.A., place of a thousand stenches. This is where everyone's favorite red monster winds up when he stars in his first feature film, The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland. Elmo learns a lesson when he refuses to share his blanket with his best friend, Zoe, then loses it in Oscar's can, where it goes all the way to Grouchland. There the beloved blanket winds up in the clutches of the greediest man alive, Huxley (played by Mandy Patinkin), and Elmo has to venture alone to Huxley's lair to get it back. The Sesame Street gang follows Elmo but ends up in the Grouchland jail. Fortunately, whenever things start looking too bleak, our hosts Ernie and Bert stop the film and offer reassurance. There are also numerous opportunities for audience participation (canned kids' voices will prevent parents from feeling too silly when viewing at home). This 73-minute film has plenty to entertain the youngsters as well as details and inside jokes for parents. And of course there are marvelous animated effects--although seeing Elmo dance in 1999 isn't quite as remarkable as it was to see Kermit ride a bicycle in 1977's The Muppet Movie. The songs are fun and bouncy, and veteran performers Patinkin and Vanessa Williams (as the Queen of Trash) contribute their exceptional talent. The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland was conceived as a film kids could see in theaters; in the safe environs of home, it's good fun for anyone over the age of 2, or even younger in small doses. --David Horiuchi

5Elmo Rules!
By Alicia Swofford
I am the mother of an 18-month-old daughter who is an absolute Elmo nut! We saw this movie in the theater and it was the first time she has sat still for more than five minutes since she was a very small baby. She hardly even blinked during the entire 73 minutes of the movie. Excellent movie and I would recommend it to all parents of children who love Elmo.

5We LOVE Elmo!
By Amy
I wasn't sure how my daughter would be in a theater (she's 2 1/2 & this was our first time), but I needn't have worried. She was captivated! It was cute & entertaining for me; but she loved it. Burt & Ernie kept the concept of falling into Grouchland from being too scary, and the tunes were engaging. I highly recommend for all pre-schoolers!

5We've rented it twice - now it's time to buy it!
By A Customer
Our almost-2-year-old daughter is captivated by Elmo and this movie, and we are too. She calls it "Elmo Banky" (Elmo's Blanket). Besides the usual great quality puppetry and music that you expect from Sesame Street, this movie suprised me in two ways.

First, the story is great for toddlers. It's about how Elmo accidently loses his special blanket and how he (with help from his friends and the audience) finds it. Our daughter "got" it immediately - and she was caught up in the excitement and villianry, all the while clutching her own special blanket.

Second, Bert and Ernie appear throughout to help the little ones through the intense parts of the movie (such as when Elmo is falling down a magic passageway to Grouchland). They remind us all that it's just a story. This kept our daughter from getting too scared.

Better than Disney!
